The main events at the Kames Motorsport Complex are sprints, attracting drivers from all over the UK to Scotland's only purpose built speed venue. Sprinting involves one car at a time running against the clock and, at Kames, one run is either 3 laps from a standing start running clockwise or 2.5 laps running anticlockwise. There are usually 2 or 3 practice runs in the morning, starting at 9.30am, and 2 competitive runs in the afternoon.
Cars are divided into class by engine size and by whether they are road legal or racing cars. Our own events are run to Scottish Sprint Championship regulations. Events run at the track by other Clubs may have cars running to a different specification i.e. full interior trim or totally stripped out interiors in Road Cars, so check which regs apply. Entry fees start from £65 per event.
Getting Started
It’s a great sport to get involved in and you CAN do it on a budget. You need to apply for a race licence from the MSA and buy yourself an approved race suit and helmet, then just choose your car (you can use your road car if you want), join a club and enter an event – it’s that simple! Remember that your car will have to be scrutineered before you go on the track for your own safety and you should check the MSA website for guidelines on this at www.msauk.org to keep you right. You can talk to drivers at lunchtime about the sport and how to get involved, and many of them will be happy to spend time with you then.
