Kai Johnson, one of the youngest EACC Member finishes fifth in the British GP50 Championship.
Kai has had his ups and downs throughout the year but finished strong at the last meeting of the season at Llandow South Wales with some of his best racing of the season finishing overall second and securing fifth place in the British Metrakit GP50 Championship. Better than we first thought and he would have been knocking on the championship door, but due to lack of funds this was not possible.
Kai has pushed hard in the top group for most of the season running last year’s model GP50 which was 8.2hp until we managed to upgrade his engine to 10.3hp with a cylinder kit for the last race. The new models are 10.5hp which the top four riders were on for most of the season. You can imagine the difference it would have made if we had managed to upgrade Kai’s engine earlier. I am sure Kai would have been contending for the championship title.
On the whole Kai has done brilliantly in his first year and everything considered has made him a much stronger and better rider, well ready for next season.
Kai is now looking forward to next year and we will need to decide whether to keep him on the GP50 or move him on to the GP70 - again this will all be down to funding.
A big thank you goes out to all at East Ayrshire Car Club and the committee for your continuing support and use of the facilities at Kames Circuit. It would not have been possible for Kai to achieve what he has without your encouragement and support.
Kai is only too willing to support anyone who wishes to sponsor him, by advertising on his bike. If you know of anyone willing to discuss possible sponsorship please contact us through the forum. Any help at all would be very gratefully received.
