Committee Update 5

Sorry it’s been so long since my last update - for long enough there really was little to update you on. However, I can confirm that, in the last few weeks, a great deal of things have crossed the Committee table to give you some exciting news on East Ayrshire Car Club and Kames.

The 2008 Awards Dance

The date has been set as the 24 January 2009, and the venue the Lochside Hotel in New Cumnock. Last year’s ceilidh was such a roaring success, we decided to re-use the formula and take it a stage further. This stunning hotel comes highly recommended, and will host our evening with a sit-down dinner, rather than a buffet, with the awards and dancing into the night. Again, we will have preferential room rates for those wishing to stay, and we will be able to identify a number of very close alternatives for you if it is full and to meet different budget requirements.

The Lowland Championship Awards will also be presented on this evening, as East Ayrshire Car Club were a main sponsor of this Championship and many of the rounds were held at Kames. This was a great success in its first year, and we hope it will go from strength to strength from 2009 on.

MSA Regional Challenge

As you are probably aware, the MSA Regional Challenge is a Sprinting Team challenge which took place this year down in Curborough - and I last updated you to advise that a Scottish team containing an EACC member won against all the competition South of the Border. This means that the winning team get to choose the venue for next year’s challenge, and I am proud to say that Kames has been chosen to host this event.

The defence of the title will take place on 2nd August and the more spectators we can get there cheering our guys on, the better their chances of keeping the title. It’s a matter of pride, so I will remind you all nearer the time, and ask that you find the time to come and support your Club, your Motorsport and Scotland!!!!!

The Scottish Round of the British Sprint Championship

I am delighted to announce that, thanks to the support and tireless efforts of Mr David Baker, the Scottish Rounds of the British Sprint Championship will be held at Kames in 2009, hosted by East Ayrshire Car Club. This event will join our August double-header event, and will slot in nicely with the Guyson Scottish Championship. Whilst this will mean a huge amount of work and effort from the Club, we are keen to ensure this does not adversely affect any member of the Scottish or Lowland Championship, but is a great coup for EACC and is likely to drive our number of entrants close to the maximum of 100.

With this in mind, this will be the biggest this event has been in a number of years, so preparation is starting now! We will NOT get this wrong as our reputation hinges on getting it right, and we will need the support of you all. At the moment we have over 350 members of EACC, and would be grateful for any offers of support and assistance you can offer to making this event a great success and putting Kames firmly on the map!

The Up-Coming AGM and Committee Places

As you all know the AGM will take place in January. It rounds off an eventful year, where the Club has made huge strides forward. This progress cannot halt, or even slow down, and a few of the current Committee members feel ready to take a step back and make space for some fresh input and enthusiasm. If you are interested in joining us on the Committee, or even just in offering some ad-hoc support in organising, please get in touch with John Frew, or any other member of the current Committee - all offers warmly welcomed!

Rallying

The Lombard Rally is coming up on 8 November and all volunteers to help marshal are very welcome. It’s a great opportunity to get up close to the action and be involved in the sport, and experienced Marshals are much appreciated. Can you help?? If so, please contact Drew Anderson on dru.and@virgin.net 01465 712580 H or 07811202980 M.

The Galloway Hills rally will be taking place on 7 December 2008. Again, if you are willing and able to marshal, please call John Frew on 07733 257047 or john@eastayrshirecc.co.uk.

Our very own Rally Director George Bryson is taking part in the RAC Rally which is happening 14-17 November. He’s rushing to finish him MK1 (1968 lotus twin cam) - we believe he may be the 1st EACC member ever to take part in this - if you know any different, please let us know.  It would be GREAT to have a bunch of EACC members there to cheer him on - GO GEORGE!!!

Kames Improvements

The first piece of good news here is that fellow member John Allan has agreed to come on board and help manage Kames and take it forward through the improvement challenges. To do this he will need support from the membership through workdays etc., so if anyone can think of any way they can help, please let the committee know so John can be in touch. Once he has settled in to the Committee, he will no doubt add some input to my update to let you all know his plans.

The 3-phase electricity has finally been installed to Kames, meaning our showering facilities are now fully functional, complete with heating and hand dryers in operation. Kames the now THE place to camp, so there’s no excuse. We will shortly be putting together a programme of improvements to Kames for 2009, and will let you know as soon as this is agreed. Doubtless we will have work to do around the track and improvements to make to safety as we will need to upgrade our track licence to National A for the British Championship round, which is a fantastic opportunity to work towards making Kames the best and most sought after sprint venue in Scotland.

So that’s it for now. I hope the information rolled out in these updates so far make you proud of your Club!

Dance tickets will be available from Committee members shortly, so get ready to place your order. We had 140 people at last year’s dance, so with 360 club members we are aiming for 200 at this year’s event. Look forward to seeing you there!
