Committee Update 4

Hi all, and apologies for the delay in getting an update to you. It’s been a busy summer so far, and so this is a fairly long update.

So, what’s been happening at EACC? Well, I’d like to think you have all seen the latest edition of our magazine. We are very proud of the professional job Steven Turner is doing on this, and hope that you are enjoying the content, which is more vibrant and interesting than ever. Whilst we believe that this is everything you could want from a magazine, never mind one that’s included in a mere £20 per year membership fee, we want to know if it gives you everything you would like. So if you can think of any features you would like to see, please contact Steven (details on the contacts page) and let him know. He is always delighted to get new ideas.

Kames Complex

As I am sure you know, our new toilets have arrived, complete with showers. They look great and are much more luxurious than we had previously. Having said that, the old block has served us well for many years, but it was definitely time to move on. The next step is the installation of 3 phase electricity to power the lights, heating, hand-dryers and showers effectively, and we are just waiting for Scottish Power to come and do this.

Following the vandalism during the winter which left us with broken windows in the clubhouse, the Insurance has been claimed and Alistair Watson completed the job of not only repairing the window units, but fitting vandal-proof shutters. It makes a tremendous difference to let the light into the clubhouse, and the shutters look really smart when they are closed too. The paintwork on the outside of the Clubhouse has also been done to match – looking FINE!

The MSA representative in charge of issuing our track licence paid us a visit to inspect the track a couple of weeks ago. The last time he came, our report was not flattering as he documented the complex as “scruffy”. However, thanks to a tremendous effort from many of you volunteering to do Work Days through the winter, organised by Scott, and to the work that has continued since then, our report is now very favourable. Mr Symes has documented in his report that Kames is now looking better than he has ever seen it. This is great news, and the Committee have taken it as encouragement to continue the programme of improvement to make Kames the best venue in Scotland, if not the UK.

Speaking of which – you may or may not be aware that a couple of teams from Scotland visited Curborough last month to compete in the MSA regional Sprint Challenge. I am delighted to say that one of the teams, including John Mackenzie (EACC), Garry Dickson (Lowlands Championship Main Sponsor) and Norman Murray took the crown. This means that they can choose the venue for the same event next year and bring it to Scotland. VOTE KAMES. EACC will be lobbying to bring this event to Kames, but please add your weight to this by posting your preference to bring it to Kames on the Scottish Sprinting Forum www.scottish-sprinting.co.uk/flatchat.

This is a special offer weekend with both days for £100 per driver. Regs can be downloaded from the sprinting page, complete with entry for and track layout. The Saturday party including BBQ and music promises to be great fun, with plenty camping and taking advantage of the new showers. As always, we need Marshals to come along and help. If you can’t take part, please come along and help out – it is much appreciated and you will be paid as always. Contact Allan Rae or John Frew if you are able to help – we can’t run it without you.

Rally time trials are now becoming very popular and are getting great feedback from all participants. George Bryson puts a great deal of time and effort into organising them, so it’s good to see you all enjoying them so much. For more dates, check the Calendar page and contact George to put your name down.

The 12 Car Rally held this month was also a great success, and participants are demanding more – therefore more you shall get! Watch this space.

After a slow start to the season due to weather, the Grasstest season is now well underway. Proving as popular as ever with all age-groups, it is clearly and excellent introduction to motorsport, with many people starting there then filtering through to Rallies and Sprints. Having said that, it’s so much fun, loads of you stick to the grass – and who could blame you. Again, Campbell and Jimmy invest a huge amount of time and effort making these great events for you – any offers of help will be warmly appreciated.

Our next test night is on 7 August 2008- contact Lesley to book your space. Remember, we have a maximum of 15 drivers for an evening and 25 for a day. IF the list is full, your name will be added as a reserve – often people are forced to withdraw before the day so reserves can get a place. If you are finding it hard to get on to any of these events, please let us know as we can run more of them if demand justifies it.

That’s all for now – Keep telling us what you think.
