Hello Members - welcome to the start of the racing season!
Events
It's been a long winter, but clearly not long enough since it seems many of us are still rushing around trying to get cars ready for the start of the season.
First up at Kames of course is the Sprint double-header on 12th and 13 April - let's hope it doesn't snow :(. The first day is an East Ayrshire Car Club run event and the 13th is run by Scottish Sporting Car Club. However, I would like to point out that the 13th is also a round of the Windowcraft Lowlands Championship, which EACC is heavily involved in and we are hopeful this will bring more and more participants to sample the exciting and technical track at Kames. Remember it's open to spectators and the Cafe will be open all weekend.
Also on the 13th is the first Grasstest at Drumclog. These are always very popular events, and it's where many new talents cut their teeth from the age of 14. If you haven't ever been involved, it's a very fun and exciting way to enjoy motorsport and to learn how to handle a car - great experience for young drivers and the perfect way to start out. It is also enjoyed by men and women of all ages (not many things you can say that about!!) and the social side of it is almost as good as the taking part - why not pop down and have a look?
The Scottish Elise Club have hired Kames for the day on 26 April, and it sounds like they will have an interesting selection of cars there (including one EACC member with his Ariel Atom - he was kind enough to take the marshals out in this at t track day to thank them for their contribution, and I think it's fair to say they were pretty impressed - or speachless).
If you would be prepared to help out at any of our events by Marshalling, please contact Allan Rae (Chief Marshal) on 07926 505710 or Allan@eastayrshirecc.co.uk).
For The Members
You will doubtless be aware from our various mailshots that the East Ayrshire Car Club Forum is now up and running through the website. It's a great way to exchange ideas, buy & sell, talk tactics, banter and for just "kicking tyres and telling lies". After just a couple of weeks, there are already 55 members and over 150 posts. However, with a membership list close to 180, there's a fair few of you still waiting to join. Be a part of the action, just click the link and follwo the instructions - you might be surprised how hooked you get on it. Top Poster to date is Russell - find out what he has to talk about....
Our new magazine editor has now issued the first edition of our magazine, and I think you will agree it's a great new look. I hope you found it as interesting and exciting as we do. I've seen the beginnings of the second edition, and believe me, it only gets better. The magazine will be produced quarterly, and Steven is always looking for interesting features and articles, so please do contribute anything you would like to see in it. If you have an interesting project, we would love to feature you - just contact Steven Turner on 07828 296123 or Steven@eastayrshirecc.co.uk.
Kames Progress
The work continues at Kames and it really is taking shape. The whole place has been given a general tidy up, tyre walls rebuilt and gravel traps combed. The track licence has been approved and issued, so the track itself is ready to rock for the up-coming events.
The general complex has been receiving some serious and long overdue TLC too. New fencing is up, the entry roads at the top and bottom gates have been tarred, and the paddock lines have been painted in. It all looks very fresh and crisp.
The next stage is the much anticipated Ladies and Gents Toilets. Thanks to the very generous grant of £18,000 awarded to us by the Cumnock & Doune Valley Minerals Trust, we have been able to order a large unit to be placed at the side of the Clubhouse, containing Ladies Toilets, Gents Toilets, Disabled Toilet Facilities and a Shower for those camping at Kames for events. This will complete the transformation and make Kames much more available and enjoyable to families in Motorsport.
The Cafe is also under new management, and there is a new extended menu and price list. You will be pleasantly surprised by the variety of hot and cold snacks (such as stovies, pies, chicken curry), healthy options (salads, salad rolls ), and home baking, at exceptionally good prices. The Cafe has already been open this year for track days and feedback from those attending has been very positive.
That's all for now - but remember, for breaking news, keep checking the forum. As always, please feed back if you have any suggestions to make these updates work better for you.
