Welcome to the second Committee Update for the webpage. There’s plenty to tell you.
The Dance
As many of you will know, the evening at the Park Hotel in Kilmarnock was a great success and was attended by 140! This was made up of members and friends / family, all of whom we were delighted to see. Some of the furthest travelled members came all the way from Wick, and we thank them for making such an effort to celebrate the 2007 successes with us.
The evening was opened by our Chairman, John Frew, followed by a speech on the history of the Club and Track from Iain Gemmell as our President and guest speaker. The list of prize winners is on the 2007 Awards section of the webpage – well done to all on a very successful year in motorsport. A special mention for Shug Steel who received a rather fetching tree (those of you who know him will understand the significance) for his contribution to Grasstests! – Who needs Trophies!
The Ceilidh Band (Caber) were superb, and even gave lessons in advance of each dance – although it didn’t always help, and carnage ensued as we all went off in different directions, promptly falling over each other! But the dance floor was constantly full and everyone was game for a laugh.
It was particularly nice to see the number of men who came in full Highland Dress for the evening, and the ladies who arrived in some stunning dresses and outfits.
We had what was undoubtedly our biggest raffle ever, with a record number of prizes. Our thanks go to Campbell Jamieson who managed to secure an amazing top prize for us of a Digital Camera and the lucky winner was George Hay. There were also plenty track passes, and bottles as well as some more unusual prizes. The entry tickets were placed in a draw and the winner received a choice of a free entry to a rally sprint, or a speed sprint, or 3 entries to a grasstest. The lucky winner was none other than Joe Pringle, so well done Joe.
If you missed the evening, you will want to make sure you don’t miss it again next year. To give you a taster, we’ve added some photos of the evening (I take no responsibility for any trouble this gets anyone into!!).
General Club Information
Our membership take-up is already great this year, and as at 28 February 2008 we had 138 members. This is up by around 50 on the same time last year, and we want to give even more people the opportunity to get involved in our ever-improving club. So, please encourage your friends to come along – they won’t regret it!
We have a Sprint Test Weekend coming up on 15 & 16 March which is already almost fully subscribed. It will be run very similarly to a sprint as a trial run for the season ahead, so feel free to come down and watch the guys putting their new or improved cars through their paces. There will be a similar rally sprint test day added to the calendar which is currently planned for 6 April. Also listed on the Calendar, but I’ll remind you anyway, are the Autotest at Kames on 9 March and our next Social Evening on Thursday 6 March – it’s great to get together with like-minded people, so don’t miss out. For details on the social evening, contact John Frew Junior by emailing jockyarocky@hotmail.com
That’s all for this episode – further updates to follow in due course. As always, any feedback or questions can be directed to myself by emailing Lesley@eastayrshirecc.co.uk
